About Sandy Oaks Campground

Our Mission and Values
SandyOaks1.jpg

Nestled in Keithsburg, Illinois, Sandy Oaks began as a privately owned campground offering a blend of rustic charm with modern comfort. Situated right adjacent to Big River State Forest, the campground has long been cherished by equestrian enthusiasts for its direct, ride-on access to miles of scenic horse trails.

Moto Legacy: Sandy Oaks Raceway

In 1977, Sandy Oaks Raceway rose to prominence by hosting its very first AMA National Motocross event—a landmark race held on June 12, 1977, in which legendary rider Bob Hannah claimed victory in the 125cc class aboard a Yamaha.

Though it hosted only a single AMA national race, that 1977 event firmly placed the track on the map for motocross fans nationwide.

Evolution into a Riding Destination

Since that historic race, Sandy Oaks transitioned into a multi-use park combining:

  • A 50-acre off-road motorsports area, complete with single-track woods trails and a sandy motocross track.

  • A 100‑site campground offering 30/50‑amp hookups, fire rings, picnic tables, showers, a clubhouse, and more.

This layout makes Sandy Oaks not just a camping spot, but a full-spectrum destination for riders and families alike.
